Women's Volleyball Defeats Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas Opener

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae women's volleyball bounced back with a four-set victory over Belmont Abbey on Wednesday evening in Conference Carolinas play. Sydney Stigler and Clara Duarte combined for 22 kills to lead the Bobcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Belmont Abbey evened the first set score at 21 points apiece after a kill from Lola Sultenfuss. The Crusaders took the opening set, 26-24, off a Bobcat hitting error.
  • Lees-McRae knotted the contest at one set apiece with a second set win at 26-24. Stigler collected a set point at 25-24 and Karlee Mainor registered a service ace for the set victory.
  • The Bobcats led by a 12-point margin at 19-7 off an attack error from Belmont Abbey and earned the set advantage with a 25-12 win in the third set.
  • Lees-McRae tallied the match win in four sets with a 25-20 score in the fourth as the Bobcats held the Crusaders to a negative hitting percentage in the final set of the evening.
  • Lees-McRae, as a team, had a .225 hitting percentage with 46 kills and held Belmont Abbey to .089 hitting percentage in the contest.
  • The Bobcats had a season-high 13 total blocks in the league win and Duarte registered 10 kills and eight blocks in the match.
  • Stigler had a team-high 12 kills on a .207 hitting percentage to go along with 10 digs. Destiny Holley notched nine kills on a .250 hitting percentage.
  • Ella Young distributed 19 assists in the match and Addyson Morgan followed with 13. Nina Vallesi missed out 20 digs with 18 digs in the match for the Bobcats.
 
FOR THE CRUSADERS:
  • Tyler Case had a match-high 14 kills on 33 swings for Belmont Abbey and Sultenfuss followed with 11 kills on an efficient .421 percentage.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae women's volleyball heads to Georgia for two matches against Emmanuel and Young Harris on Friday and Saturday. The Bobcats play the Lions in Franklin Springs, Georgia at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
