Men's Basketball Reaches Century Mark in 100-72 Win over Shorter

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's basketball hit the century mark in points for the fifth time this season with the 100-72 win over Shorter on Saturday. Four Bobcats tallied double-digit points and Ja'Quavian Florence led the scoring with 18 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae raced out to a 14-3 lead off back-to-back threes from Nico Ashley and Anthony Parker. The Bobcats moved the margin to double figures off a fastbreak slam dunk from Dre Nelson.
  • Florence made the score 34-13 at the 8:11 mark of the first half and the Bobcats held the 51-22 advantage after the first half of play.
  • Parker moved the lead for Lees-McRae to 30 points off a three-pointer at the 16:12 mark of the second half.
  • DJ Kent sent home a dunk with 9:53 in the contest as the Bobcats led 79-46. Lees-McRae defeated Conference Carolinas newcomer Shorter, 100-72, on Saturday in Banner Elk.
  • Florence led the Bobcats with 18 points on 7-12 shooting. Kent and Parker collected 16 points each. Nico Ashley recorded 13 points, two assists, and one block in the contest.
  • Lees-McRae shot 55.7% (39-70) from the floor with 11 made three-pointers. The Bobcats registered 30 points off 17 Shorter turnovers and held the advantage inside with 44 points in the paint.
FOR THE HAWKS:
  • Jabiri Smith led five Hawks in double figures with 14 points. Colton Wilbanks followed with 12 points and 10 rebounds on the day.
