Women's Volleyball Secures Five-Set Victory in Home Opener against King

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae women's volleyball finally returned to the McNair & Debi Tornow Court on Wednesday evening and the Bobcats secured the five-set victory over "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" foe King. Sydney Stigler led the Bobcats with a season-high 23 kills and added 12 digs in the match.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae def. King, 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12)
LOCATION: McNair & Debi Tornow Court – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (2-8/2-1); King (3-6/1-1)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • King and Lees-McRae were tied at 22-22 in the first, but the Tornado won the final three of four points for the set win.
  • Lees-McRae bounced back in the second set and saw a similar score at 22-22. The Bobcats used two kills from Clara Duarte and a kill from Jadyn Walters capped the set win at 25-22.
  • The back-and-forth match saw King claim the one-set advantage with the 25-23 set win in the third set. Gracia Love and Riley Nelson tallied kills at the end of the set for the set victory.
  • Lees-McRae pushed the set to a fifth stanza after collecting the fourth by a score of 25-23. Kennedy Jane Nelson recorded the set point at 24-23 and a solo block from Nelson sent the match to a deciding set.
  • The Bobcats staked out to a quick 5-0 lead in the fifth set and Duarte ended the match with a kill at 15-12 for Lees-McRae.
  • Stigler led the way with 23 kills on a .298 hitting percentage and added 12 digs in the match. Rebecca Ryan followed with 15 kills on a .303 hitting percentage and Duarte joined them in double-digit kills with 14 on the evening.
  • Iza Rosin had a match-high 50 assists and collected a double-double with 10 digs in five sets. Lauren Newcomer had a season-high 28 digs in five sets played for the Bobcats.
  • King's Gracia Love led the Tornado with 18 kills and 17 digs. Amaya Hall registered 24 assists and Faith Morse had 23 digs in tonight's contest.

Lees-McRae women's volleyball continues the three-match homestand on Friday evening when the Bobcats host Young Harris at 7 p.m. on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court. The theme of the match is White Out and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.
