Men's Basketball Falls to Mount Olive in High-Scoring Affair

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's basketball fell short to Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play, 87-85, on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court. Dwight Canady had a game-high 20 points for the Bobcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae held the eight-point advantage off a three-pointer from Yerald Mieses with 12:28 left in the first half. Mount Olive cut into the Bobcat lead and held the one-point advantage with five minutes remaining in the opening half.
  • Mount Olive's Matt Kirby connected on a layup with 43 seconds remaining in the first half and the Trojans led 40-37 at the halftime break.
  • The Bobcats regained the two-point lead with a layup from Isajah Deburgo and pushed their lead to eight points off a three from Mieses.
  • UMO continued to chip away at the lead and trailed by two with a three-pointer from Shane Peterson at 4:11 mark of the second half.
  • Mount Olive took the lead off a fastbreak triple from Peterson with 2:33 left in the second half. Jaevian Alston hit free throw with 18 seconds to push the Trojans back with the 86-85 lead. Ira Wilson had his shot blocked on the other end and Mount Olive earned the 87-85 win in Banner Elk.
  • Canady had a game-high 20 points in 34 minutes and went 4-6 from three-point range and 6-11 from the field. Mieses followed with 14 points. Deburgo, Nigel Okwakol, and Cedric Patterson joined Canady and Mieses with double-digit points in the contest.
