Women's Basketball Matches Longest Win Streak in Program History with 68-63 Overtime Victory at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – Lees-McRae women's basketball earned its eighth consecutive win on Wednesday with a 68-63 Conference Carolinas overtime victory over Ferrum. Kaylee Carson led three Bobcats in double-digit points with 21 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sandra Mason knocked down a three-pointer with 6:19 remaining in the first quarter as the Bobcats led 10-3. Ferrum cut into the lead and trailed by five at the end of the first period.
  • Lees-McRae added to its lead in the second quarter and led 27-21 after a layup from Carson. Ferrum finished the quarter on a 5-0 scoring run and trailed by one point at the end of the first half.
  • Ferrum took the 28-27 lead and moved the margin to five points with a layup from Maslyn Mosbacher. Lees-McRae bounced back after Charlotte Torgerson hit a triple with 1:03 left in the third. The Panthers held the 45-40 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
  • The Bobcats started the fourth quarter on a 5-0 scoring run and led by five with 2:36 remaining in the fourth. Ferrum's Aleksandra Kubiak sent the game into overtime with a three-point play at the end of regulation.
  • Shayne Burton tied the contest at 63-63 with 3:09 to play in overtime. Carson connected on free throws to give the Bobcats the two-point advantage and Nadiya Hairston secured the win with a steal off an inbounds pass and scored the final two points at 68-63.
  • Carson led all scorers with 21 points and recorded three steals and three rebounds. Hairston registered a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Sandra Mason rounded out the Bobcats in double-digit points with 12 points. Sydney Gueterman tallied eight points and 10 rebounds in the contest.
