Courtney Weathersbee Returns to Lees-McRae as Head Women's Volleyball Coach

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College Director of Athletics and Club Sports Ed Winters announced the hiring of Courtney Weathersbee, 2018 alumnus, as the Head Women's Volleyball coach for the Bobcat program. Weathersbee returns to Banner Elk after collegiate coaching stints with King University, Marymount University, and UNC Wilmington.

"We are excited to welcome Courtney (Weathersbee) back to Lees-McRae to lead our women's volleyball program", said Winters. "As a former student-athlete, she understands the culture and values of Lees-McRae College, and her coaching experience at multiple divisions has prepared her to make an immediate impact. Courtney brings great energy, a strong volleyball background, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court."

Weathersbee currently serves as an assistant coach at Triangle Volleyball in Raleigh, North Carolina where she helps lead the 18 Black program.  Weathersbee also served as an assistant at Cardinal Gibbons High School where the women's volleyball won the state championship in 2024 and were regional finalist in 2025.

"I am incredibly grateful for the chance to come back to Lees-McRae— not just as an alum, but as the head coach of this program", said Weathersbee. "This place gave me so much, and I am excited to give everything I have back to it. I truly appreciate Ed and the whole athletic department for this opportunity! Go Bobcats!"

At Marymount, Weathersbee was the graduate assistant for the Saints and was involved in recruiting and specialized in setter training. Weathersbee and Marymount earned two Atlantic East Conference championships and two NCAA Division III tournament appearances.

After graduation from Marymount, Weathersbee then moved to UNC Wilmington for the 2020-21 season and served as a volunteer assistant with both the indoor and beach programs. She also spent time coaching at the NC Coastal Volleyball Club. Weathersbee returned to UNCW in 2022-23 as a volunteer assistant.

In 2021, Weathersbee was hired as an assistant coach at King University in Bristol, Tennessee.

At Lees-McRae, Weathersbee was a four-year member of the Bobcats' women's volleyball program from 2014-2017. She was the main setter in Banner Elk and finished her career with the sixth-most assists in program history with 1,758 in 103 career matches played. Weathersbee also achieved academic success after being named a three-year member of the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll and a two-year Academic All-Conference representative.

Weathersbee, a Raleigh, North Carolina native, graduated from Lees-McRae in 2018 with a degree in Sports Administration and a minor in Coaching. She received her master's degree in human resource management at Marymount University in 2020.
