James Rump tallied goals this evening as Lees-McRae men's soccer defeated Chowan, 3-2, in the Shope Classic.

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (1-0); Chowan (0-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Rump opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal in the eighth minute and was assisted by Adam Condron and Oskar Lindegard.
- Chowan knotted the contest at one goal apiece in the 12th minute via a goal from Fernando Hernandez.
- Lees-McRae regained the one-goal lead off a goal from Conor Hart and the Bobcats held the 2-1 lead at halftime.
- The Bobcats had quality chances with shots on goal from Hart and Nils Schulze in the 53rd minute, but Chowan's Lucas Kibrya made back-to-back stops.
- Lees-McRae extended its lead to 3-1 off a deflected goal from Marrazzo in the 74th minute.
- Chowan cut the deficit back to one goal in the 89th minute, but the Bobcats held off the Hawks for the 3-2 season opening victory.
- Jonathan Kienle made two saves in goal for the Bobcats and collected the win.
