Gus Pederson joins the Bobcat Men's Soccer coaching staff after completing a two-year graduate assistantship with King University's Women's Soccer program. As the only assistant for the Tornado, Pederson took on the responsibilities of a full-time assistant coach with his main duties being training goalkeepers, recruiting, and organizing camps and clinics. In his first season, Pederson helped coach five All-Conference players, three of which also garnered All-Region recognition from NSCAA. The following season, King University's goalkeeper, Olivia Drake, finished second in conference in saves after recording 121 saves in her senior season. During his time at King, Pederson was asked to take over as Interim Head Men's soccer coach. He was able to finalize three international recruits and assist with the coaching transition.
In 2017, Pederson spent the summer working as an assistant coach with Tri-Cities FC Otters. While being a second assistant under Lees-McRae Head Coach, Rich Wall, he had full charge over the goalkeepers at the Otters. He helped the second year program set single season records in wins and total points within league play. Pederson developed Otters Goalkeeper Carlos Rubio, who went on to be named an All-American and National Goalkeeper of the Year at the NCAA Division II level.
For the last two years, Pederson has served as an Age Group Director for the North Carolina Olympic Development Program.
Pederson is a Lees-McRae Men's Soccer Alumni. During his time with the program, he was named two-time Teammate of the Year and was part of a group of five seniors that were instrumental in a smooth coaching transition going into their senior season. Pederson appeared in eight games with seven starts. He recorded three shutouts his senior season.
