2019-20 Season (Junior) - As a junior, Abernathy took part in four meets...The Morganton, N.C. native competed in shot put and weight throw throughout the 2019-20 campaign...His top outing of the season came at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships where he picked up a new career-high in the weight throw with a toss of 13.63m...His best performance in the shot put was 12.62m which he was able to do twice at the Appalachian Open Indoor Meet and the JDL January College Kick-off. 

2018-19 Season (Sophomore) - Abernathy competed in every meet over the course of the indoor and outdoor seasons for the Bobcats...He competed in the weight throw, shot put, hammer throw, javelin and discus events...He placed third in the javelin event and earned Third Team All-Conference honors for the second year in a row at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championships (48.44 meters)...He broke the school outdoor discus record twice, including breaking his own record at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championships in a sixth-place finish.

2017-18 Season (Freshman) - In his first season as a Bobcat, Abernathy competed in 11 different meets over the course of the indoor and outdoor seasons...He competed solely in the field events of shot put, discus throw, hammer throw, weight throw and javelin throw...Set personal best marks in the javelin throw and discus throw at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships...Abernathy's javelin throw mark of 50.09m was the third-best by a student-athlete in the conference in 2018...For that effort, Abernathy was named Third Team All-Conference Carolinas in the javelin throw.
