Margaret Harvey is a former collegiate basketball player and collegiate women’s basketball official with a deep passion for the game. She competed at Old Dominion University, Mars Hill University, and the University of Coastal Georgia, gaining unique perspectives that shaped her understanding of basketball. At Forsyth Country Day School, she was a McDonald’s All-American nominee, set multiple school records, and earned honors including NCISAA 3A All-State and PACIS Co-Player of the Year—experiences that profoundly shaped her game and personal growth.

Margaret played under coaches Delaney Rudd and Sam Warren, experiences that refined her skills and influenced her development on and off the court. She later served as a collegiate women’s basketball official, contributing to the women’s game with insight and integrity.

Her journey has been deeply guided by the love and support of her grandparents, Nancy and Robert Harvey, whose unwavering belief in her has been the foundation of every opportunity and step forward. Margaret credits them as “the key to this journey,” and holds their influence close to her heart.

The passing of her mother became a turning point in her life—one that ultimately led her to Lees-McRae College. This profound loss reshaped her purpose and grounded her commitment to building meaningful connections with the students, athletes, and Banner Elk community. In her work, she carries her mother’s legacy with her every day.

She is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Lauren Galvani, Athletic Director Ed Winters, and the supportive coaching staff across all sports, as well as the unwavering encouragement from her tribe—Pryncess Dublin, Kate Lilly, Amy Meinecke, and Tae Paulino. Her favorite quote reflects her philosophy: “Am I dreaming or living in my dream?”

Outside of basketball, Margaret enjoys hiking, music, and time with her two doodles, King James Valentino and Stella Rose.
