The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats volleyball team hosted
Anderson University Tuesday evening in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic
Conference play, defeating the Lady Trojans 3-1, 30-12, 30-27,
25-30, 30-23.
The Lady Bobcats came out strong in game one scoring the game's
first five points, forcing Anderson to take a time out. The
timeout did little as Lees-McRae would extend its lead to 8-0
before the Lady Trojans would get on the board. With the score
15-8, the Lady Bobcats used a 7-1 run to take a stranglehold of
game one and force another Anderson time out. The run ended at
12-1 and the score 27-10, as the Lady Bobcats cruised to the game
one victory. The second game was a much different story as the
team's traded punches from start to finish as neither team could
build more than a three point lead. The Lady Bobcats prevailed
30-27 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Anderson turned the tide in
game three, jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead forcing the Lady
Bobcats to call time out. The Anderson lead would reach as much as
seven, before the Lady Bobcats would begin to chip away at the
deficit. The comeback would fall short, as Anderson would force a
fourth game with a 30-25 win. Game four would go back and forth
and see the teams go point for point as they did in the second.
Lees-McRae would pull away from the Lady Trojans and emerge with a
30-23 win.
Natalie Burns (pictured) led the Lady Bobcats attack with 14
kills while Daviana Metti and Caty Honey contributed 12 and 11
kills respectively. Preseason AVCA All Americans Lacie Smith and
Amanda Huffaker would provide excellent all around performances
with Smith burying 11 kills, adding seven digs and three block
assists while Huffaker dominated the net with three solo blocks and
two block assists. Trisha Reese had a team high 30 assists while
Lauren Dickover added 16.
The Lady Bobcats will face St. Andrew's Presbyterian College and
Coker College on the road this weekend before returning home to
close out the season with five consecutive home
games.
