The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats volleyball team continued
its winning ways Saturday afternoon, hosting Coker College in
Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference action and emerging with a
3-0 win, 30-23, 30-18; 30-19. The win improves the Lady Bobcats to
23-7, (15-2 CVAC).
The Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first game,
forcing the visiting Lady Cobras to call a timeout. The time out
woke up the Lady Cobras as they strung together a 6-1 run, knotting
the score. Lees-McRae would take control from there, leading by as
much as six along the way, before finishing off the Lady Cobras
30-23.
Coker would grab an early 2-1 lead in game two, before a 6-0 run
by the Lady Bobcats that included an Amanda Huffaker service ace,
opened things up. After the Lady Bobcats were called for a double
hit, they put together a 6-1 run, pushing the game out of
reach.
Game three saw the Lady Bobcats open well with a service ace
from Trisha Reese before inconsistent play allowed the Lady Cobras
to hang around. Tied at ten, the Lady Bobcats hitters resumed the
dominating attack seen in the first two games to outscore the
visitors 20-9, taking game three and the match, 30-19.
Tiarra Pendleton (pictured) led the Lady Bobcats attack with 12
kills and a .550 hitting percentage while also contributing
defensively with nine digs. Preseason AVCA All Americans Huffaker
and Lacie Smith also had outstanding hitting percentages with .563
and .438 respectively, each contributing nine kills. As a team the
Lady Bobcats hitting percentage was .409 in the three game match.
Reese and Dickover tallied 23 and 15 assist respectively.
The Lady Bobcats will host Belmont Abbey in CVAC action at
Williams Gymnasium Wednesday evening at 6:30pm.
