The USC-Upstate Spartans used an early goal to sneak out a 1-0
win over the Lees-McRae College Bobcats soccer team at Tate Field
Thursday evening. The non-conference loss drops the Bobcats record
to 4-4-1.
The Bobcats were up for the challenge against the seventh ranked
Spartans, creating scoring opportunities from the opening whistle,
but unable to put the ball past keeper Ryan Cooper. The Spartans
Kim Krohn scored the game's only goal in the game's fourth
minute.
"We played well, not happy with the result, but we still played
well," commented Head Coach Chris Whalley. "I am proud of the way
the boys played hard and fought from start to finish. We created
opportunities, just couldn't capitalize on our chances. We just
didn't have the rub of the green tonight."
The Bobcats will return to action this Saturday when Coker
College visits Tate Field for a 4:30p.m. conference match up. The
remaining eight games on the Bobcats regular season schedule will
be Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference games. The Bobcats hold
a 1-1 CVAC record, defeating Anderson and falling to
Queens.
