Freshman setter Trisha Reese led the Lees-McRae College Lady
Bobcats volleyball team to its sixth consecutive 3-0 sweep,
defeating Mount Olive Lady Trojans, with a match and new career
high 34 assists. The Lady Bobcats took down the Lady Trojans 30-26,
30-24, 30-20 in a rematch of last year's Carolinas-Virginia
Athletic Conference title game.
The home side controlled much of the first game after breaking
away from a 4-4 tie before the Lady Bobcats took their first lead
of the game 26-25. After exchanging side outs, Lauren Dickover
served the final three points of the game to give the Lady Bobcats
the 1-0 lead.
Game two saw the Lady Bobcats lead by as much as six before the
Lady Trojans fought back to within two at 24-22; however that would
be as close as the Lady Bobcats would allow the hosts to get,
scoring six of the game's final eight points. Leading by as much
as five, the Lady Trojans again would fight back in game three,
pulling to within one at 19-18 before Preseason AVCA All American
Lacie Smith served up an ace during a three point service for the
visitors that kick started an 11-2 run. Reese would record back to
back aces to finish off the sweep.
Smith led the Lady Bobcats with a match high 17 kills. Reese
added four digs and two aces to go along with her career high 34
assists while Nicole Burns led all servers in the match with three
service aces. Dani Usedom led the team in digs with ten.
The win improves the Lady Bobcats to 15-6 (7-1 CVAC), while
Mount Olive drops to 5-9 (4-6 CVAC). Lees-McRae hit .407 in game
three and .320 overall in the three game set. The six consecutive
wins for the Lady Bobcats is the longest streak of the season thus
far. A pair of losses sandwiched streaks of four and five wins
respectively to start the year.
The Lady Bobcats will return to CVAC action Saturday afternoon
when they travel to Wilson, NC to face Barton College at
2:00p.m.
