Meghan McAuliffe scored the game-winning goal and assisted on
the insurance tally as the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women's
soccer team defeated Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference rival
Lees-McRae 3-1 on Saturday.
The Lady Knights improved to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the CVAC;
while the Lady Bobcats fell to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the
conference.
Rachel Hanna put the Lady Knights on the board early with a goal
in the fifth minute. Chrisy Stapleton crossed the ball to Hanna
who made no mistake giving the home side the early
lead.
After halftime, McAuliffe scored on a penalty kick in the 49th
minute; just barely beating an out stretched Anita Hekman in the
Lady Bobcats goal. McAuliffe then assisted Kiersten Durst on a
corner kick in the 56th minute.
Maribeth Novak broke up the Lady Knights' Garrison Burton's
shutout bid in the 89th minute, corralling a loose ball within the
18 yard box and drilling a shot past Burton.
Freshman Cameron Joyce made the first start of her collegiate
career earning five saves.
The Bobcats will host Limestone Tuesday evening at 5:00p.m.
