MISENHEIMER, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats fought back from a
2-0 deficit to win a five game match Tuesday evening at Pfeiffer
University, increasing their Conference Carolinas leading record to
13-3. Pfeiffer falls to 10-6 in Conference Carolinas play, and
17-10 overall.
The Falcons took a close and exciting game one, ready to play
the nine-time defending Conference Champions on their home court.
The Falcons Lauren Spiotta had Pfeiffer doubled up on the Lady
Bobcats with a block at the net, 12-6, before the Lady Bobcats
fought back with a 10-6 run to knot the game at 16. After a back
and forth rally that went down to the final two points, the home
side emerged with a 30-28 win for the 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bobcats came out on fire in game two, building a 9-1
lead. However, the Falcons fought right back to cut the lead to
two, 13-11. The Falcons would use a 4-0 run to take a 20-19
advantage, however the Lady Bobcats would once again knot the
score, this time at 27. Once again the Falcons would hang tough
and use the home court advantage to take another 30-28 win, and a
2-0 lead.
Game three was again close, going point for point; however the
Lady Bobcats would pull out the win after the Falcons had tied the
score at 25. A 4-1 run would pull Lees-McRae within one, ending
the game 30-26, as the visitors looked to take match to the
distance to sweep the two match season series.
The Lady Bobcats marched out to an early 8-3 lead, stretching it
to 21-12 to take control. The resilient Falcons, hungry for the
upset would mount a comeback to draw within one 25-24. After
regrouping, the Lady Bobcats would outscore the home side 5-3 to
hang on and force a fifth and deciding game.
After the Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead, the Falcons would
come back against the Lady Bobcats to tie the score at four. Once
again, momentum shifted, this time back to Lees-McRae, using a 6-0
run to ride to a 15-9 win, completing the three game comeback
win.
Senior Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina) led the Lady Bobcats
with 21 kills and 19 digs while freshman Whitney Kiser (Connelly
Springs, NC) and junior Natalie Burns (Orlando, FL) chipped in with
11 and 10 respectively. Freshman Kell Bogdan (Leawood, KS)
registered her third 30 dig game, picking up 33 in the contest
while sophomore Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) and freshman Tracey
Copley (Virginia Beach, VA) added 17 and 12 a piece. Dickover
handled much of the setting duties at the net, recording 49 assists
while also adding three service aces.
After dropping the opening game of a five game road swing, the
Lady Bobcats have reeled off four straight Conference Carolinas
road wins, and will now wrap up the regular season with five home
games. At 19-11 overall, the Lady Bobcats will begin their home
