Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats defeated Conference
Carolinas foe Mount Olive College 3-1 in Williams Gymnasium
Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Bobcats a 14-3 conference
record (20-11 overall), leaviing them a half-game behind conference
leader Limestone with three conference matches left in the regular
season. The Trojans fall to 11-6 (15-13 overall).
The Lady Bobcats came out stong in game one, seemingly ready to
take revenge on the Trojans who had managed to defeat them in five
games earlier in the season. Mount Olive was not ready to give up
yet and pulled within one point late in the game. However, the
Bobcats answered right back, firing off the last couple of points
to take game one 30-27.
Game two was a battle from the beginning with neither team
willing to give the other any ground. Finally the determined
Trojans managed to take a 27-23 lead which was enough of a cushion
to give them the win in game two, 30-26.
Lees-McRae rallied charging to a 7-1 lead in game three.
Freshman Kell Bogdan (Leawood, KS) with four aces on the day put
together a solid service run in the middle of game three. Senior
Natalie Burns (Orlando, FL) and sophomore Katie Legg (Alta Loma,
CA) also stepped up with their hitting, finishing the day with nine
and eight kills respectively.
The Bobcats showed no mercy in game four of the match jumping to
an early 10-3 lead to which the Trojans had no answer. With the
passers on top of their game and a number of blocks at the net the
Bobcats clinched the match win 30-17.
Cordoba, Argentina native Daviana Metti lead the Bobcats with 16
kills, two solo blocks, one block assist, 3 aces and 20 digs.
Sophomore Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) had 52 assists and 15
digs while teammates Caty Honey (Geneva, IL) and Katie Legg had
three block assists each.
"Our team has showed remarkable resilience the last few weeks,
bouncing back each time we have dropped a game in key matches.
It's truly a testament to the team's belief in their ability,"
commented Head Coach Jamie Petrik after the game.
The Lady Bobcats continue the season at 7:00pm Tuesday, October
30th against Conference Carolinas opponent Queens University.
