The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats battled Catawba College
Saturday afternoon, falling short against the Lady Indians by
scores of 3-1 and 6-4 in women's non-conference softball action.
The Lady Bobcats fall to 1-9 while Catawba improves to 9-1.
Ryann Baker led the home side with three home runs in the
doubleheader, while Lindsay Ettinger pitched a complete game
allowing a single run on five hits in the first game of the
afternoon. Baker put the Lady Indians on the board with a solo
home run. The Lady Bobcats Dakota Beck tied things up with a lead
off home run in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth, Catawba retook the lead when Allie
Marshall doubled with one out. Marshall advanced to third on a
wild pitch and later scored on a two out single by Sarah
VanBuskirk. Catawba closed the scoring in the sixth with an
insurance run.
Lees-McRae loaded the bases in the seventh, but Ettinger got
Salle' Horner to fly out to left to end the game. Marshall was the
only player to record two hits in the opener.
In game two, the Lady Bobcats led 2-1 after two innings before
the home side rallied for the sweep. Using an error and an RBI
single by Jessica Kinsey, the Lady Bobcats led for the first time
during the two games. Baker connected on her second homer of the
day, a three-run shot in the third to put the Lady Indians up
4-2. A double by Horner in the fourth trimmed the Catawba to lead
to 4-3, but Kathryn Geouge answered with a RBI single for Catawba
in the bottom of the inning. Baker was at it again with a lead off
homer in the fifth to give the Lady Indians the 6-3 lead.
Horner, (pictured top left), paced the Lady Bobcats in the
second game with three hits, while Amanda Dodson, and Paula Fryer
each connected with two.
The Lady Bobcats will return to action Sunday afternoon when
they travel to Brevard College to take on the Lady Tornados.
