Anderson, SC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats fell to Anderson
University 4-2 in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon,
evening their conference record to 1-1, (2-4 overall). The Lady
Trojans improve to 4-2 (2-0 Conference Carolinas).
Virginia Cates put the home side up 1-0 with her first of two on
the afternoon in the 11th minute. The Lady Bobcats would knot the
score at one when sophomore Maribeth Novak (Homer Glen, IL) notched
her first of the season in the 30th minute. The teams remained
tied at one through the first half.
The second half was all Anderson, as the home side dominated the
play, scoring three goals in a 21 minute span to put the game
away. Cates buried her second of the day, the game winner in the
49th minute to get things rolling for the Lady Trojans. Lynne
Flint extended the lead to two with a goal in the 64th minute while
Brooke Jackson added an insurance marker just over six minutes
later in the 70th minute.
Novak (pictured top left), playing in her first game of the year
after returning from injury, got one back for the visitors scoring
on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, the damage
had been done and Anderson protected their two goal cushion to
remain undefeated in conference play.
"It was great to see Maribeth come back strong after being out
for three months after her foot surgery," commented Head Coach
Renee Lopez. "She has been working so hard in practice since
preseason and it's exciting to see her make a difference in her
first game back."
The Lady Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow, when they
travel to Rock Hill, SC to take on Flagler College in a neutral
site, non-conference contest. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm.
