BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats volleyball team
earned its third consecutive three game sweep Saturday afternoon,
defeating Limestone College 30-21, 30-26, 30-25 in Conference
Carolinas action at Williams Gymnasium. The Lady Bobcats improve
to 12-8 (8-1 Conference Carolinas) with the win while the Lady
Saints drop to 8-12 (6-2).
The Lady Bobcats never trailed in the match, jumping out to an
early 4-0 lead in the first game before the Lady Saints battled
back to cut the deficit to one at 11-10. Another four point run
capped by a Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) service ace gave the
Lady Bobcats a little breathing room, 15-10, and forced a Limestone
time out. The Lady Saints responded with the first point after the
time out, however senior Caty Honey (Geneva, IL) registered back to
back kills while classmate Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina)
scored another ace for the home side to push their lead to 18-11.
The Lady Saints would regroup and put up a four point run of their
own to force an LMC time out with the score 18-15. The Lady
Bobcats time out seemed to be just what they needed, responding
with a 7-2 to take control of the game and cruise to the opening
game victory.
Game two saw the teams rally back and forth throughout with the
Lady Bobcats unable to extend their lead past two until late in the
contest and escape with a 30-26 win. Hungry to finish the Lady
Saints off in three straight, the Lady Bobcats came out with a 9-2
run to start the game, extending the seven point cushion to 13-6,
and finally to double digits with a 21-11 advantage. After a
Limestone time out, the visitors put together an 8-3 run to close
the game to six, 24-19, forcing the Lady Bobcats to use a time
out. Limestone would battle back to within two, 27-25, before the
Lady Bobcats would close the door and escape with the five point
win, 30-25.
Metti led the Lady Bobcats attack with a match high 17 kills
while also picking up six digs. Honey and junior Natalie Burns
chipped in with nine and eight kills respectively. Defensively,
