BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Maribeth Novak had two assists to lead the
Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats (10-8, 3-7) to a 2-0 victory over the
Anderson University Lady Trojans (3-11-1, 2-6-1) Saturday night in
a Conference Carolinas match at Tate Field.
The game was scoreless until the 87th minute when Vickie Rich
(Arlington Heights, Ill.) received a through pass from Novak (Homer
Glen, Ill.) and beat the keeper to the top shelf to give the Lady
Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Lees-McRae added an insurance goal in the 90th minute when Jessica
O'Leary (Millbury, Mass.) chipped the Lady Trojan keeper for the
goal. The scoring opportunity came on a Lady Bobcat counter attack
when Novak picked up a loose ball and played a through pass to
O'Leary.
The Lady Bobcats outshot the Lady Trojans 14-8 and had nine shots
on frame compared to four.
Marissa Middleton (Olathe, Kan.) made four saves to earn the
shutout for the Lady Bobcats, and Kelli Whitfield made seven saves
in the losing effort.
The Lady Bobcats honor their lone senior in their next match on
Monday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m. against Southern Virginia at Tate
Field.
