game high 19 points, No. 4 Florida Southern defeated Lees-McRae
College 99-75 at the 2008 Disney's Division II Men's Tip Off
Classic basketball tournament on Friday evening at Disney's Wide
World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.
Woodacre (Piney Flats, Tenn.) recorded 16 of his game-high 19
points in the first half to lead four Bobcat (0-1) players in
double figures. Woodacre shot 6-of-16 from the floor, including
5-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc. Nick DeSchepper (Fishers,
Ind.) contributed with 17, despite a making just 7-of-20 from the
field and 3-of-11 from beyond the three-point line. Kyle Boardman
(Clemmons, N.C.), 6-14 FG and Aaron Willey (Kingsport, Tenn.), 5-9
FG added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Rob Eldridge led a balanced attack for the Moccasins (1-0) with 16
points, 11 in the first half. Eldridge shot 6-of-11 from the floor
and grabbed seven rebounds. Braxton Williams recorded 13 points
off the bench and Zach Smith grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Brandon Jenkins and John Thompson each contributed with 12 points
apiece.
The Moccasins led from the start as they opened up a 17-point lead,
25-8, in the first seven minutes of the game. The Bobcats got it
to within 14 with five minutes left in the half, but Florida
Southern extended the lead to as high as 20, 47-27, at the 2:16
mark.
In the second Florida Southern extended the lead to 23 points,
61-38, within the first six minutes. The Bobcats made a slight run
to trim the lead to 16 points, 81-65, but could not close the gap.
The Moccasins recorded 18 of the last 25 points of the game for the
24-point win.
Lees-McRae looks to bounce back against Minnesota-Duluth, who won
77-75 over the University of Montevallo, on Saturday at 5:00
p.m.
