LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - University of Montevallo (1-2) defeats
Lees-McRae College (0-3), 81-62, in the 2008 Disney's Division II
Men's Tip Off Classic basketball tournament Sunday evening at
Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.
Nick DeSchepper led the Bobcats with 26 points shooting 10-of-20
from the floor, including 4-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc.
Aaron Woodacre, who was named to the All-Tournament Team for Group
Sportsmanship, recorded 12 points shooting 4-of-6 from beyond the
three-point line. Woodacre finished the tournament averaging 17.7
points per game. Kyle Boardman also had double figure points with
12 points on 6-10 from the floor.
Anthony Brown scored 12 of his team-high 16 points in the second
half to lead five Montevallo players in double figures. Nate
Flowers, who was name to the All-Tournament Team for Group
Sportsmanship, recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11
rebounds. Marcus Lancaster contributed 13 points, shooting 5-of-9
from the field. Andre McMillian and Freddy Little added 10 points
a piece in the Falcons victory. Flowers averaged 11.7 points and
9.3 rebounds for the tournament.
Montevallo started the scoring with a Marcus Lancaster layup, but
Lees-McRae came back to score nine straight points led by two
three-pointers by Woodacre. The Falcons trimmed the lead to 13-12,
but the Bobcats recorded 12 of the next 14 points to extend their
lead to 11, 25-14, with 7:24 left in the half. Montevallo came
back with a 16-4 run to take a 30-29 lead and cruise into
intermission with a two-point advantage. The Falcons would not
give up the lead again as they led by as many as 22 points coasting
to the 19-point win.
Montevallo forced 18 Bobcat turnovers, which led to 23 points
compared to seven for Lees-McRae. The Falcons shot 54.5 percent,
20-55 FG, from the floor, including 67.9 percent in the second
half, while holding Lees-McRae to 40.7 percent.
