defeated the Lees-McRae College Bobcats (0-2) 81-72 at the 2008
Disney's Division II Men's Tip Off Classic basketball tournament
Saturday evening at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex near
Orlando, Fla.
Aaron Woodacre (Piney Flats, Tenn.) followed up a 19-point
performance on Friday with a game-high 22 for the Bobcats.
Woodacre shot 6-of-13 from the field including 5-of-9 from the free
throw line. Kyle Boardman (Clemmons, N.C.) was the only other
Bobcat player to score in double figures with 19 points, 7-13 from
the field and 5-5 from the free throw line.
Ron White led six Bulldog players in double-digit points with 14
points, 6-7 FG. White recorded a team-high in rebounds, eight, and
assists, eight. Brian Sykora had the hot hand in the first half
scoring 10 of his 13 points. John Vaudreuil and Steve Klass scored
12 points each and Steve Duncan added 10 points off the bench.
Lees-McRae dominated the first half behind the hot hand of
Woodacre's 15 first half points. Besides being down 1-0 at the
start of the game, the Bobcats led nearly the entire first half by
as many as eight points.
Trailing by seven points, 32-25, with 4:17 left in the half,
Minnesota - Duluth recorded seven of the final points to trim the
lead to 33-32. The Bulldogs continued the streak with a 22-10 run
to start the second half to take an 11-point lead, 54-43, at the
12:12 mark.
Lees-McRae scored six straight points to trim the lead to 54-49,
but they couldn't break the five-point barrier the rest of the
game.
Lees-McRae looks for their first victory of the season Sunday as
they play the University of Montevallo at 5:00 p.m.
