Aiken, SC--The #18 University of South Carolina-Aiken swept the
visiting Lees-McRae Bobcats Saturday afternoon in men's tennis
action. With the win USC-Aiken moves to 2-1 on the year
while Lees-McRae slips to 3-1.
In #1 singles action, it was the nineteenth ranked player in
Division II, Dagoberto Darezzo, who defeated freshman Bobcat Nandor
Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Alek Mojski (
Berlin, Germany) playing in the #2 slot, was unable to handle the
31st ranked player, Bruno Seves, falling 6-0, 6-0. The remaining
Bobcats playing in singles action were able to grab a game here and
there from the Pacers, but couldn't maintain the level of play to
take a match from USC-Aiken.
Doubles action saw the duo of Shaun Sumner (Burlington, NC) and
Solymosi battling the second ranked doubles team in the nation of
Darezzo/Edward Home to 9-8. Number two and number three doubles
for the Bobcats were outpaced by the USC-Aiken Pacers, falling 8-0
and 8-3 respectively.
The Bobcats will resume play Sunday afternoon when they face #19
Augusta State University in Augusta, GA. First serve is set to
begin at 1:00pm.
