Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae men's tennis team halted a
two-game losing skid Saturday afternoon by defeating Conference
Carolinas opponent Coker College 5-0. With severe weather in the
area, the match was halted when the Bobcats snatched the
match-deciding fifth win from the Cobras. With the win the Bobcats
improve to 6-5 on the year and 2-1 in conference action. Coker
remains winless, falling to 0-6 (0-5) on the season.
Freshman Nandor
Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary), taking his third win in the last
four matches, conceded only one game to Esteban Teran at the one
slot to set the pace for the Bobcats Saturday afternoon. Teammate
Alek
Mojski (Berlin, Germany), battled through his match, overcoming
a rally on the part of his opponent to take the 6-4, 7-6 win at the
two. #3 Shaun
Sumner (Burlington, NC) and #5 Blair
Propert (Gold Coast, Australia) both captured their third
victories in the last four matches, while Travis
VanHoy (Union Grove, NC),also defeated his foe at the four
ending the match with the Bobcats fifth win. Paul
Muenow (Fort Mill, SC) was leading his competition 6-1, 6-2
when play was suspended.
The Bobcats will face two ranked teams and a conference opponent
this next week. First up is #16 Lander University on Monday, March
17th. The following day they face Erskine University, then will
take on #37 Tusculum College on Friday to close out the week. The
Cobras will travel to Catawba College on Monday, March 17th.
