Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae men's tennis team extended their
winning streak to three Saturday afternoon defeating Conference
Carolinas opponent Barton College at the Baker Tennis Facility in
Banner Elk, NC. The Bobcats improve their record to 5-3 in league
play and 10-11 overall while the Bulldogs drop to 2-5 (5-10
overall).
The Bobcats took a 3-0 advantage from doubles action today.
Nandor Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) and Alek Mojski (Berlin,
Germany) held out for an 8-6 win over Scott Reddick /Ceasar Grobel
in the first flight while Shaun Sumner (Burlington, NC) and Travis
VanHoy (Union Grove, NC) combined forces to shut out Leandro
Peron/Eduardo Stefani 8-0. Romulus Teague (Hickory, NC) and Jesse
Laughrun (Burnsville, NC) allowed William Cobb/Diego Salinas only
one game at the three slot, winning 8-1.
In singles action Solymosi won his third consecutive match,
defeating Conference Carolinas week six Player of the Week Reddick
6-1, 6-1. The freshman now has six conference wins to his name all
in the No. 1 slot. Mojski suffered his first conference loss of
the season falling 6-1, 6-2 to Grobel while Sumner also grabbed his
third straight and sixth conference victory when he took the 6-4,
6-2 match over Salinas.
Following suit at the fourth flight, another freshman, VanHoy,
claimed his third consecutive win and fifth in conference when he
defeated Stefani 6-0, 6-3. Laughrun, in his first match at the
five, fell 4-6, 6-0, (10-8) to Peron while Blair Propert (Gold
Coast, Australia) was credited with a win by default.
The Bobcats wrap up their regular season tomorrow when they host
Pfeiffer University at 1:00pm.
