Sumter, S.C.--The Lees-McRae men's tennis team defeated Mt.
Olive 5-1 in their final match of the Conference
Carolinas Championship Tournament Saturday in Sumter, S.C. securing
a third place finish for the Bobcats. Earlier in the day the
Bobcats had dropped a 5-1 match to Anderson University in
semi-final action. The Bobcats ended their season 13-12 overall
and 8-4 in league play.

In the first match of the day for the Bobcats, they fell behind
when Anderson took two of the three doubles matches. Shaun Sumner
(Burlington, N.C.) and Travis VanHoy (Union Grove, N.C.) took the
only point of the match for the Bobcats when they defeated
Schiebler and Gasper 8-3.
In singles action, only three matches were completed before the
match was decided. Anderson swept all three, defeating Romulus
Teague (Hickory, N.C.), VanHoy and Blair Propert (Gold Coast,
Australia) at the three, four and six flights respectively. The
other matches were not completed.

In a match to determine third and fourth place for the Conference
Carolinas Tournament the Bobcats forged ahead after doubles after
grabbing wins at the top two flights. At No. 1 Alek Mojski
(Berlin, Germany) and Nandor Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) outscored
Lage and Serra 8-6, then the duo of Sumner and VanHoy took their
second doubles win of the day beating Mosteanu and Queiros in the
two slot also by a score of 8-6.
The second match of the day required only three matches to be
completed as well; this time in the Bobcats' favor. Freshman of
the Year, Solymosi, defeated Lage 6-2-, 6-0 at No. 1, then Mojski
took a 6-1, 6-4 win over Baros. VanHoy then took a 6-2, 6-3 win
over Barber to clinch the match victory and third place overall for
the Bobcats.
