BANNER ELK, NC - The Lees-McRae Bobcats dropped a non-conference
men's lacrosse contest Wednesday afternoon to #7 Wingate University
Bulldogs 14-5 at Tate Field. The nationally ranked Bulldogs
improve to 8-2 while the Bobcats fall to 2-6 on the season.
The Bulldogs got started the onslaught with a six goal run to
open the game finishing the first quarter by that margin, with Evan
Schaller scoring the fifth and sixth goals, the latter proving to
be the game winner. Freshman Josh Lucero put the Bobcats on the
board at 8:40 of the second quarter and classmate followed up on a
fast break feed from fellow freshman Pedro Silva off the face off
just nine seconds later. Billy Mutton would get one back for the
Bulldogs to push their lead back to four, however the Bobcats
showed they still had a little fight left in them with freshman
Nathan Hammer's fourth goal of the season. The Bulldogs would show
just why they are a nationally ranked team, burying two more before
the half to take a comfortable 9-3 lead into halftime.
Kyle Costello would score a pair and Bob Chinn a single in the
third as the Bulldogs held the Bobcats off the board and extended
their lead to nine, 12-3, as the teams headed into the final
frame. Kirk Rogers would score a man down goal for the Bobcats to
start the fourth but once again the Bulldogs responded with a pair
to hold a 12-4 lead. Sophomore Jack Pearl would find the back of
the net late in the fourth for the Bobcats to close the game
scoring.
Adam Canoy registered six saves in the Bobcats goal in thirty
minutes of play while Andy Nesdill played the second half and
picked up eight saves, four in each quarter in relief.
The Bobcats will be back in action this weekend, hosting Queens
University of Charlotte in Conference Carolinas action at Tate
Field. Game time is set for 5:00pm.
