from Las Vegas, Nevada as we continue our Up Close series of
interviews. Dickover has accummulated 197 sets, 65 digs and ten
kills for the Lady Bobcats already this season. In the classroom
she is pursuing a business degree which she plans to use in the
hotel industry.
1. What made you decide to come to Lees-McRae
College? I loved the campus and everyone when I came to
visit. Just talking with the coaches and meeting players I got the
feeling that this is where God wanted me to go. I wanted to get a
way from the big city life for awhile and enjoy the seasons.
Banner Elk seemed to be the perfect place to go.
2. What are you most looking forward to this
season? We have a great group of girls this year, and I'm
excited to see what we are going to do with the talent we have and
what we brought in. I want to keep pushing myself to keep getting
better on the court and being able to lead my team to another
championship.
3. In which part of the game does your strength
lie? I would say I excel in setting and keeping my team
excited during the game.
4. What do you do to prepare yourself for
matches? Before matches, I like to have a time where I
can put my iPod on and play a song that gets me fired up. I also
like to have a quite time after that to visualize what I am going
to do.
5. Who has had the biggest impact on your volleyball
career? My dad and my high school coach Jay Renneker have
had the biggest impact.
6. What is your favorite part about being a member of
the Bobcat volleyball team? I love all the girls! And
the coaches are always there for me when I need them whether it's
volleyball or personal issues.
7. What personal and team goals have you set for this
season? I want to keep pushing myself to keep getting
better on the court and being able to lead my team to another
championship.
8. What is the biggest mental challenge you face on the
court? I do not think I really have any mental
challenges. When I make a mistake I am very good at shaking it off
and moving to the next play.
9. Who has been the biggest role model in your
life? How? My parents…my dad as taught me how to
be a strong person, to go after what I believe in, and has always
told me to ask this question, "Choices are always right and wrong
but what is the wise thing to do?". My mom has taught me to love
everyone and be kind to people. She has shown me how a little love
and patience to people can go a long way. I have the best of both
worlds all under one roof.
10. What is your idea of a perfect afternoon?
The perfect afternoon for me is to either be lying in the pool
reading a good book with my mom or be at a Spurs game with my
dad!
11. If you could try something new today what would you
try and why? More like if I could do anything I wanted
for a day I would love to know what its like to be like 5'9".
Being short has its benefits but when I step on the volleyball
court I just want a couple more inches, not a lot just a
few…
12. Describe your favorite dessert. If it has
CHOCOLATE in it… It's my FAVORITE!
