BANNER ELK, N.C. -- The Lady Bobcats recorded their first win of
the season 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-16) over Fayetteville State in
match two in the second day of the Tournament of Champions. The
Lady Bobcats were defeated by USC-Aiken 3-2 (18-25, 25-17, 30-28,
23-25, 11-15) in game one.
In match one, sophomore Whitney Kiser (Connelly Springs, N.C.) led
the Lees-McRae attack with 14 kills while hitting .462 for the
match. Freshman outside hitter Megan Epperson (St. John, Ind.)
added 14 kills, nine digs and four aces for the Bobcats while
sophomore right side hitter Taylor Stice (Franklin, Tenn.) added 11
kills. Junior setter Trisha Reese (Hanover, Pa.) dished out 27
assists and sophomore libero Kell Bogdan (Leawood, Kan.) had a
game-high 21 digs.
"It was a really battle for both teams," said head coach Jamie
Petrik. "In games three and four both teams had to battle to come
from behind to win."
In match two, Kiser led the Lees-McRae attack with 10 kills.
Junior middle blocker Katie-Marie Legg (Alta Loma, Calif.) and
freshman outside hitter Lauren Hall (Enka, N.C.) added seven kills
apiece. Junior setter Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Reese
handed out 18 and 17 assists, respectively for the Bobcats.
"Fayetteville had the best hitter in the gym (Chekimbrell
Jefferson),and we were able to close our block and control her,"
Petrik said. "We served very well against them, as well."
Kiser, who played both middle blocker and outside hitter, was
named to the Tournament of Champions All-Tournament team for her
performance over the weekend.
