BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats (1-20, 1-10)
fell to the Queens University of Charlotte Royals (4-13, 3-7) 81-63
Monday night at Williams Gymnasium in Conference Carolinas
action.
The Royals rode a 56 percent field goal percentage and a 58
percent three point percentage, while the Bobcats only managed 37
percent from the floor and 13 percent from behind the three point
arc.
With the Bobcats up 5-4 just two minutes into the game, the
Royals went on a 10-0 run to take a 14-5 lead with 14:40 on the
clock.
Four minutes later the lead hit 13, 24-11, on a Kevin Fowler
three point play.
The Royals held a double digit most of the first half, but a
foul sent Aaron Woodacre to the free throw line for the Bobcats
with a tenth of a second on the clock. Woodacre knocked both free
throws to close the lead to five, 37-32, heading into the locker
rooms.
The lead was cut to three, 37-34, on two Kyle Boardman free
throws immediately following the break, but the Royals responded
and opened up the game with a 10-2 run to take a 47-36 lead with
16:40 on the clock.
A Woodacre three cut the lead to five, 52-47, with 11:30
showing, but again the Royals answered with a 14-2 run to take
68-49 lead with just under eight minutes remaining.
The game ended with the Royals up 18, 81-63.
Boardman led the Bobcats with 19 points, and Woodacre chipped in
with 10 points. Jesse Hoots had seven rebounds and four assists
for Lees-McRae.
Daniel Bailey led all scorers with 23 points and 12 rebounds for
the double-double. J.B. Baldwin added 10 points.
Queens outrebounded Lees-McRae 42-27 and scored 21 points from
behind the three-point line while Lees-McRae only managed nine
points.
The Royals averaged 1.13 points per possession compared to the
Bobcats .88. They also averaged 1.27 points per shot.
The Bobcats will travel to Barton College on January 31st to
play the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
