BANNER ELK, N.C. - The No. 1 Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's
soccer team (11-0, 7-0) defended their ranking with a 3-0 win over
the Queens University of Charlotte Royals (5-5-1, 2-4-1) Tuesday
night at Tate Field in a Conference Carolinas match.
The Bobcats notched their first goal in the third minute when
Jamie Bladen launched a rocket from 30-yards into the back of the
net. Richard Guffens laid the pass off to Bladen for the assists.
The goal was Bladen's third of the season and Guffen's team leading
eighth assists.
In the 36th minute, David Palmer took a ball up the touchline
forcing the Royals keeper to make a save and set the Bobcats up a
for a corner kick. Luke Perry sent a bending corner into the box
where Dale Parker connected with a header for the goal to make it
2-0. The goal was Paker's third of the year and Perry's fourth
assists.
The score remained 2-0 through the intermission and until the
58th minute when Guffens scored his fourth goal of the season.
Jamie Bladen played a through pass to Berin Boracic, who beat two
defenders and sent a cross to the back post. Guffens finished the
cross for the one timer and to give the match the final score of
3-0.
Sean Paradise earned the win the Bobcats with no saves. Dylan
Lawrence picked up two saves in the relief for the Bobcats. Chris
Raines made seven saves in the Queen's loss.
Lees-McRae outshot Queens 26-5 and held an 11-2 corner kick
advantage.
The Bobcats will travel to Mount Olive Saturday, October 17th
for their next match.
