HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Lees-McRae College's Luana Rocha (20-5-0
overall, 11-1-0 conf.) has been selected as the NCAA Division II
Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Player of the Week during
week number nine in the 2009 season.
The freshman defensive specialist had a career weekend and
historical week as the Lady Bobcats went 4-1 overall and 1-0 in
Conference Carolinas play.
Rocha started the week off with a 14-dig performance against
Belmont Abbey with no reception errors in 25 attempts. Lees-McRae
won 3-0.
At Lander's Dig Pink Tournament Rocha was the first Lees-McRae
volleyball player to record three 30-dig matches in two days and
the first person in Conference Carolinas history. In the first
match against Lander she recorded 34 digs in the five set match
where Lees-McRae fell 3-2. She had 39 reception attempts and only
two errors. In the second match of the day, she had another 34-dig
match in a five set win over Francis Marion. She also had 28
receptions with no errors. In the first match on day two of the
tournament Rocha set a new career high and Lees-McRae school record
with 39 digs in the five set win over UNC-Pembroke. She had 35
receptions with three errors in the match and recorded eight
service aces. In the team's final match Rocha had 21 digs in three
sets.
Rocha averaged 6.90 digs per set throughout the week. She
averages 6.57 digs per set on the season to lead Conference
Carolinas.
