BANNER ELK, N.C. - David Palmer had two goals to lead the No. 3
Lees-McRae College Bobcats to a 4-0 win over the St. Andrews
Presbyterian College Knights Saturday afternoon in a Conference
Carolinas men's soccer action.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 9-0 on the season and 5-0
in the conference, while St. Andrews falls to 3-5 overall and 1-2
in the conference.
Dale Parker scored the first goal in the 22nd minute when
Jamie Bladen flicked a ball to Richard Guffens who headed a perfect
pass to Parker for the one-timer goal.
Palmer scored his first goal in the 34th minute to give the
Bobcats a 2-0 lead. Palmer received a quality cross
from Sam Kennedy on the front post and buried it for the
goal.
Lees-McRae took the 2-0 lead into the intermission, and added
their third goal five minutes into the second half when Luke Perry
tucked in a Berin Boracic corner inside the near post to extend the
lead to 3-0.
Palmer scored his second goal when Guffens laid a pass off to
Perry who found Palmer on the far post for the goal to give the
match the final score of 4-0.
Palmer paced the Bobcats with four points, and Luke Perry
followed with three points. Richard Guffens added two
assists in the match. Guffens leads the team with
seven assists on the season.
Sean Paradise earned the win in goal on three saves, while
William Williams made six saves in the St. Andrews'
loss. For Paradise, it was his fourth shutout of the
season.
The Bobcats outshot the Knights 20-6 and held a 16-0 corner
kick advantage.
Lees-McRae will host Belmont Abbey Tuesday, October 6th at
7:30 p.m. for their next match.
