BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats (28-5)
advanced with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-19) win over the Anderson
University Trojans (22-13) in the semifinals of the Conference
Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament Friday night in Williams
Gymnasium.
Trisha Reese served the first eight points of the match and the
first set as the Lady Bobcats jumped out to an 8-0 lead.
Lees-McRae never looked back as they went on to post a 25-13 first
set win.
In the second set, Lees-McRae ran out to a 11-1 lead, and again
never looked back as they won the second set 25-12.
The third set start with Lees-McRae taking a 5-1 lead on an
Anderson attack error, but the Trojans closed the gap to 12-9 on a
Lees-McRae service error. Back-to-back kills by Whitney Justice
and Lauren Hall pushed the lead to 14-9 to secure the Lady Bobcats
set three win, 25-19.
Justice tallied 13 kills on 24 attempts with only one error for
a .500 hitting percentage for the Lady Bobcats. Megan Epperson
followed with eight kills. Megan Mitchell handed out a match-high
37 assists, and Luana Rocha picked up a match-high 19 digs.
Epperson and Justice had three total blocks apiece - Epperson had
two solo blocks and one block assists and Justice had three block
assists. Rocha, Mitchell and Taylor Clendenin had two service
aces.
For Anderson, Jamie Lancaster had 13 kills, and Adria Mullaney
followed with seven kills and a team-high eight digs and two block
assists. Lindsay Doggett handed out 20 assists.
Lees-McRae had 42 kills on 85 attempts with nine errors for a
.388 team hitting percentage, while Anderson had 26 kills with 17
errors on 103 attempts for a .087 team hitting percentage.
Lees-McRae will host Limestone, who upset Pfeiffer, in the
tournament finals Sunday at 2 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
