WISE, VA. - The University of Virginia at Wise Lady Cavs swept
the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's softball team in a
nonconference doubleheader Friday night, 1-0 and 5-2.
In game one, Brittany Tunnell scored the game's only run when
she pinch ran for Candace Winslow, who walked to start the inning.
Tunnell scored on an RBI groundout to first base.
During the game Lees-McRae only mustered three hits and had one
walk.
Amanda Dodson was saddled with the loss allowing one earned run
in three and two-thirds innings of work, while Lauren Snead earned
the win for the Lady Cavs.
In game two, the Lady Cavs used a four run bottom of the first
inning to take a 4-0 lead and held it throughout the game. The
Lady Cavs scored the four runs on three hits during the inning.
Lees-McRae scratched a run across in the top of the second
inning when Paige Coleman homered to make it 4-1.
UVA-Wise added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning
when Britney Lawson led off with a triple and scored an unearned
run on a throwing error to make it 5-1.
Coleman added another run for the Lady Bobcats in the top of the
seventh when she singled in Dodson to make it 5-2 and give the game
its final score.
Coleman was 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the game.
With the two losses Lees-McRae falls to 2-4 on the season.
The Lady Bobcats will travel to Bristol, Va. On Saturday to take
on Virginia Intermont.
