CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's lacrosse
team lost their Conference Carolinas opener to the Queens
University of Charlotte Royals, 14-6.
Down a goal with 10:48 remaining in the first quarter Neil
Sleight scored the first Bobcat goal to tie the game on an assist
from Kyle Ficken.
Sleight scored his second goal with the team trailing 4-1, with
8:41 left in the second quarter on a Kirk Rodgers assist to cut the
lead to 4-2, but two more Royals' goals extended the lead to 6-2 at
the intermission.
The Royals opened the third quarter with two goals to take an 8-2
lead, but Matt Markey scored an unassisted goal keep the Bobcats in
the game and make it 8-3.
The Royals took control of the make by adding five more goals in
the third period to take a 13-3 lead.
Lees-McRae notched three goals in the fourth quarter. Bryan
Thompson, Michael LaSalle and Rodgers all scored unassisted goals
to make it 14-6 for the final.
Queens outshot the Bobcats 45-15.
Sleight, two goals, and Rodgers, a goal and an assist, had two
points a piece to led the Bobcats. Chandler Kirven picked up four
ground balls to lead to team.
Lees-McRae will travel to Pfeiffer February 25th for their next
game.
