BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's
softball team was swept, 5-2 and 11-6, by the Southern Wesleyan
Warriors Saturday afternoon in nonconference action.
The Lady Bobcats were plagued by ten errors that resulted in eight
unearned runs in the two games.
In game one, the Warriors got on the scoreboard in the first inning
with four unearned runs on two Lady Bobcat errors. The highlight
of the inning was a Jessica Schwartz two RBI single to make it
4-0.
Lees-McRae pushed their only runs of the game across in the third
inning when Amanda Dodson blasted a two-run homer over the fence in
left center to cut the lead to 4-2.
Southern Wesleyan added an insurance run in the top of the seventh
when Breanna McMilan hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 5-2
and give the game its final score.
Dodson took he loss in the circle for the Lady Bobcats in seven
innings of work. She scattered eight hits and allowed just one
earned run and recorded six strikeouts. Breanna McMilan earned the
win in the complete game effort for the Warriors.
Dodson led the team offensively going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In game two, 15 of the games 17 runs were scored in extra innings
by the two teams.
Again, the Warriors scored first in the first inning on an unearned
run. McMilan drove in the run with a RBI double to right.
Lees-McRae tied the game in the fourth inning when Anna Carter
scored on a throwing error by Southern Wesleyan's leftfielder. The
error came on a Paige Coleman double.
With the scored tied in the eighth inning the Warriors scored two
unearned runs in the to take a 3-1 lead, but the Lady Bobcats
extended the game to the ninth inning on a West two RBI double to
tie the game.
In the top of the ninth the Warriors exploded with eight runs on
six hits to seemingly put the game out of reach; the Lady Bobcats
mounted a comeback with three runs in the bottom half of the ninth,
but it wasn't enough as they fell 11-6.
West and Amanda Leonard had two hits apeice in four plate
appearances, and Coleman went 3-for-4 at the plate.
West was saddled with the loss in eight innings in the circle.
Lees-McRae will host Mars Hill College March 25th for their next
doubleheader.
