MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The No. 6 seed Lees-McRae College Bobcats
upset the No. 3 seed Pfeiffer University Falcons, 13-10, in the
first round of the Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse tournament
Tuesday afternoon.
Kyle Ficken, Matt Markey, Ryan LeBlanc and Brandon Marks scored two
goals apiece for the Bobcats. Brett Yusiewicz, Forrest MacConnell,
Landon Young and Derin Vacca notched one goal for the Bobcats.
Branden Snyder collected 11 groundballs and Young tallied eight
groundballs. Edward Dolan added six groundballs.
Andy Nesdill made 12 saves to earn the win between the pipes for
the Bobcats.
Pfeiffer took an early 4-2 lead in the first quarter and carried a
6-5 lead into the half scoring three goals in the second quarter
compared to two Lees-McRae goals. The two teams scored three goals
each in the third quarter giving Pfeiffer a 9-8 lead heading into
the fourth and final quarter. Lees-McRae controlled the fourth
quarter scoring five goals to earn the win while Pfeiffer only
managed one goal. Lees-McRae pulled out the 13-10 win to advance
to the second round of the tournament.
The Bobcats outshot the Falcons 48-31 and won the groundball battle
45-32.
Lees-McRae was successful on all 14 of their clear attempts, while
Pfeiffer was only good on 13 of their 17 attempts.
Lees-McRae will advance to play No. 2 seed Queens Friday, April
17th for the second round of the tournament at Memorial Stadium in
Charlotte.
