BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats fell to
the North Greenville Crusaders 1-0 in their home and season opening
match at Tate Field Saturday afternoon.
In the first half the Lady Bobcats fired off 11 shots, but
couldn't find the back of the net before the buzzer
sounded. North Greenville only managed five shots in
the first half. Of the Lady Bobcats 11 shots, five of
them were on frame compared to two shots on goal for the
Crusaders.
The Lady Bobcats had their chances early and often in the
second half, but it was North Greenville who broke the tie with a
goal from Ashlyn Henderson in the 51st
minute. Henderson gathered a bouncing ball and put a
shot just under the crossbar to score the game's lone
goal.
Lees-McRae added 11 more shots in the second half, four of
them on goal. North Greenville had nine second half
shots, three of them on goal.
North Greenville's Jessica Binkley earned the win and the
shutout for the Crusaders with eight saves in the
match. Brittany Bolton suffered the loss despite six
saves.
Lees-McRae controlled possession with six corners compared to
North Greenville's four.
The Lady Bobcats were whistled offsides seven times in the
match compared to North Greenville's one.
"I am proud of our second half effort on the attack," head coach
Renee Lopez said. "We will be using this game as a stepping stone
into conference game and next home game September 12th against
Erskine."
Lees-McRae will return to the pitch Tuesday, September 1st as
they travel to play Brevard College at 5 p.m.
