GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Limestone College Saints used a late push
to beat the Lees-McRae College Bobcats, 80-49, in a Conference
Carolinas men's basketball game Monday night.
With the game stalled for the first five minutes of play a
Jarrell Douglass field goal sparked a 10-2 run to give Limestone a
12-4 lead with 13:36 remaining in the half. Three minutes later,
the Saints pushed the lead to double-digits, 18-8, and as high as
13 points, 27-14, with 5:32 left. The Bobcats would go on an 11-2
run highlighted by four Daniel Sepokas points to cut the lead to
29-25, but the Saints would close out the half up eight, 33-25.
Coming out of the locker rooms, Lees-McRae cut the lead back to
four, 33-29, with 18:43 remaining in the game, but Limestone
quickly regained control of the game pushing the lead back to
double-digits, 43-31, two minutes later. Five minutes later,
Limestone held a 20 point lead, 57-37, and finished the game on a
23-12 run to win 80-49.
Lees-McRae managed to only shoot 30 percent overall and eight
percent from three, while Limestone was 50 percent from floor and
37 percent from three.
Daniel Sepokas scored eight points and grabbed a team-high four
rebounds.
The Saints had five players with double-digit points. Jarrell
Douglass scored a game-high 14 points for the Saints and was
followed by Michael Barrett, who scored 12 points. Tyron Evans and
Danny Friend notched 11 points, and Anthony Middleton had ten
points. Friend notched a double-double adding 11 rebounds to his
12 points.
Lees-McRae will play at Queens, Thursday for their next game
with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
