BANNER ELK, N.C. - Lees-McRae College had four plays score in
double-digit points for the first time this season, but the Bobcats
fell the Pfeiffer University Falcons, 108-94, Thursday night in
Williams Gymnasium in Conference Carolinas men's basketball
game.
Leading the way for the Bobcat was Adam McFerran who tallied 22
points going 9-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-3 from three and
collected a team-high seven rebounds. Sam Youse added 20 points by
going 8-fo-13 from the floor and knocking down four three
pointers. Daniel Sepokas and Reshon Benjamin added 12 and ten
points respectively for the Bobcats. Sepokas also had a team-high
five assists and grabbed six rebounds. Stephen Haymer added four
blocked shots on the defensive side for the Bobcats.
For Pfeiffer, Chris Woods earned a double-double with 25 points
and ten rebounds. Davon Gillard also scored 25 points for the
Falcons by going 7-of-10 from the floor and 10-of-11 from the free
throw line. Jeff Pettiway added 17 points.
Pfeiffer took an early 7-0 lead a minute and a half into the
game and the went on a 10-2 run to take a 19-9 lead at the 13:42
mark in the first half. Lees-McRae would battle back with a Youse
three and a Jeremy Helms layup to cut the lead to five points,
19-14, but Pfeiffer would go on a 10-0 run to take a 29-14 lead
capped off by a James Crowder three with eleven minutes to play in
the half.
With 7:34 left in the half, Pfeiffer held a 32-22 lead, but
Lees-McRae used threes by Terrance Bridgeman and Helms and jumper
by Jeremiah Henry to cut the lead to four, 34-30, a minute and a
half later.
In the final minutes of the half and Pfeiffer up nine, 45-36,
Lees-McRae would close the gap to one point, 49-48 on back-to-back
threes by Corey Young and McFerran with 1:53 remaining in the first
half. However, would carry a six-point lead, 54-48 into the
break.
After the half, Lees-McRae keep the lead to single digits until
free throws by Woods gave Pfeiffer an 11 point lead, 71-60, with
14:12 to play.
Lees-McRae cut the lead to six, 78-72 with just under nine
minutes to play on a McFerran three, but Pfeiffer answered by
pushing the lead to ten a minute later.
Lees-McRae would get no closer with Pfeiffer taking a 16 point
lead five times over the remaining minutes and held their largest
lead of the game 17 points with 30 seconds to play, but a Youse
three ended the game cutting the margin of victory to 108-94.
Lees-McRae had their best shooting percentage from the floor and
from three on the season by hitting 53 percent of their field goals
and knocking down 45 percent of their threes. Pfeiffer was 53
percent overall and 66 percent from three.
Pfeiffer took advantage of 26 Bobcat turnovers to and scored 34
points, while Lees-McRae scored 15 points on 15 Falcon turnovers.
Pfeiffer also held a 12 point advantage in the paint with 38 points
compared to Lees-McRae's 26.
Lees-McRae's game against Barton Saturday has been postponed due
to inclement weather heading to Banner Elk, so the Bobcats next
game will be Wednesday at home against Limestone.
