BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Brooke Santerre (Port
Republic, Md.) tallied a goal and an assist, and Brittany Bolton
(Roanoke, Va.) made four saves to lead the Lees-McRae College
women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Brevard College on Friday
night at Tate Field.
Lees-McRae (10-4) outshot the Tornados by a 23-5 margin,
including a 12-1 advantage in the second half, while clinching its
third straight winning season. Santerre paced the Lady Bobcats with
a goal and an assist, while Katelyn Custer (Mooresville, N.C.) and
Kaitlyn Kerrigan (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.) each tallied a goal in the
match.
Bolton made four key saves to notch her fourth shutout of the
season, as Custer, Santerre, and MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro,
N.C.) each recorded an assist in the victory. Kerrigan paced the
Lady Bobcats with six shots, while Sullivan and Santerre tallied
five and four attempts, respectively. Bailey Varley (Concord, N.C.)
and Elena Crowe (Candler, N.C.) each recorded a pair of shots to
lead the Tornados.
The match remained scoreless until the closing moments of the
61st minute when Santerre feathered a lead ball into Sullivan, who
then delivered a one-touch pass to Custer for the finish to put the
Lady Bobcats up 1-0.
Santerre doubled the advantage in the 76th minute, making a run
down the center of the pitch and sending a sinking shot over the
keeper for her seventh goal of the season and the 2-0 lead.
Kerrigan capped the scoring in the final seconds of the 89th
minute, taking a lead pass from Custer and delivering a well-struck
finish into the far top corner for her second goal of the
campaign.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Wednesday when the Lady
Bobcats travel to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville
University in non-conference play. The match is slated for 4:30
p.m.
