MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Mike Holloman scored 32 points as regionally
second-ranked Mount Olive defeated Lees-McRae 86-69 in Conference
Carolinas men's basketball Saturday at Kornegay Arena.
Kendrick Easley scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half as
the Trojans broke away from a six-point halftime lead.
Mount Olive (21-5 overall, 18-1 Conference Carolinas) held a
six-point halftime lead, but Holloman, scored the Trojans' first
seven points of the second half to help extend the margin. Easley's
three-pointer with 14:24 left in the game Mount Olive a 53-38
advantage. Lees-McRae (3-21, 3-15) got as close as nine points
after Sam Youse hit a pair of free throws with 13:33 remaining. But
Holloman answered with a short basket and the lead remained in
double-digits the rest of the game.
Mount Olive led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but
Reshon Benjamin banked a 24-foot three-pointer from the left wing
at the buzzer to pull Lees-McRae within 36-30 at the break.
Easley was 8-for-10 from the field in the second half, including
3-for-5 from three-point range. Holloman pulled down a game-high
nine rebounds, while Derek Staton dished out five assists.
Jeremy Helms led Lees-McRae with 14 points, while Stephen Haymer
and Adam McFerran added 10 points apiece. Haymer finished with
eight rebounds as the Bobcats outrebounded Mount Olive 39-28.
Lees-McRae host Queens Monday in Williams Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
for their next game.
