CHARLOTTE, N.C.-The Lees-McRae College Bobcats women's softball
team (8-14, 2-4) dropped a Conference Carolinas doubleheader to the
Queens University of Charlotte Royals (12-14, 5-1), 3-0 in the
first game and 6-5 in eight innings in the second game.
In game one, Queens opened the game up scoring two runs in the
first inning when Amanda Bowman hit a triple then scored the
opening run of the game on a throwing error by the Bobcats. Keeya
Turner followed the triple with her own double, scoring off of a
Campbell single.
Megan Campbell opened the fourth with her third homer of the
season giving Queens the 3-0 lead and eventual win.
Chantel Dodge struck out seven and only walked two allowing no
hits from the Lady Bobcat offense.
In game two, Maria Goode led off with a single and Bowman earner
her fifth and sixth RBI's of the season with a two-run shot to give
Queens a 2-0 lead.
n the third Lees-McRae was able to score five to take a 5-2
lead. The Lady Bobcats used four singles and a fielder's choice to
get one across the plate while the Royals defense got Ashley
Benfield out at home on the fielder's choice. The Lady Bobcats
scored five runs on six hits and Queens closed the inning stranding
two on base.
With two outs, Goode reached first on an error and Bowman came
to the plate with runners on the corners. Bowman singled, picked up
her third RBI of the game and was able to advance to second on the
throw. With two in scoring position Turner singled, droving in
Goode for the game-tying run.
It would be a stalemate for the rest of regulation with each
team recording just one hit in innings five-seven.
The Bobcats went down 1-2-3 in the extra inning with two pop-ups
and on strike out.
Jester led off for the Royals and perfectly placed a bunt to
reach first and advance Dodge to third. Jester stole second on the
next play, her second stolen base of the season. Goode singled to
bring Dodge around for the game-winning run.
Lees-McRae will return to action March 24th at Catawba for a
nonconference doubleheader.
