HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats won game one 9-1
and then won game two 8-0 in a Conference Carolinas softball
doubleheader Monday over the Coker College Cobras.
The losses drop the Lady Cobras to 7-16 overall and 2-6 in
conference play, while the Lady Bobcats improve to 10-14 on the
year and 4-4 in the conference.
In game one, Lees-McRae used 16 hits to score nine runs, four of
which came from a Meagan Knowles grand slam in the top of the
seventh inning. Coker managed to sneak just one run across with a
solo homer from Jaclin Poole in the sixth.
Sydney Greenwalt took the loss. She allowed five runs on 10 hits
with four strikeouts in five innings on the mound for Coker.
Magen West earned the win for Lees-McRae allowing just one run
on seven hits with six strikeouts.
Haley Gibson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for Coker, while
Poole was 1-for-3 with the home run.
Knowles led the way for the Lady Bobcats. She was 3-for-4 with
five RBIs and a run scored, while Kim Coley was 2-for-3 with two
RBIs and two runs scored. Anna Carter had three hits and Jessica
Travers had two hits, including a double, with each of them driving
in a run.
In game two, Lees-McRae got another stellar performance on the
mound from West in game two as she tossed the complete game
shutout, while Nicole Baxter and Paula Fryar provided the offense
with two and three run homers respectively.
West went the distance allowing just five hits, while striking
out nine to get the win.
Greenwalt was tagged with her second loss of the day, allowing
eight runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in seven innings for
Coker.
Baxter and Fryar each had two hits, including home runs, while
Baxter drove in two runs and Fryar drove in three to lead the Lady
Bobcats at the plate. Knowles picked up three more RBIs with two
more hits in game two.
Poole had two more hits for Coker, while Haleigh Rogers Brittany
Owens and Casey Plummer each had a hit.
The Lady Bobcats will travel to Catawba for a nonconference
doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m.
