GAFFNEY, S.C.-The Limestone College softball team recorded a
doubleheader sweep of a conference opponent as it took a two-game
series from Lees-McRae College Saturday afternoon, 6-2 and 2-1, at
Lady Saints Field.
The Saints stand at 25-14 overall with today's Conference
Carolinas victory (8-0 conference). The Bobcats fall to 10-18
overall and 4-6 in the league.
In game one, Limestone jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first
inning. Jenna Guse scored after a double by Kirstyn Burleson.
Kelsey Kuykendall hit a run-scoring single to score Burleson.
Lauren Myers grounded out, but not before Kuykedall came home.
The Bobcats managed a run in the top the third after Nicole
Baxter doubled to left center field to score Meagan Knowles. The
Saints scored in the fourth inning as Guse doubled to bring Shelby
Webb across home plate. Limestone took the 5-1 lead in the fifth
after Burleson doubled and later scored after a single from
Kuykendall.
Lees-McRae had a leadoff homerun from Baxter in the top of the
sixth, but Limestone wouldn't allow another hit during the inning.
The Saints' final run came in the sixth when Burleson hit a single
to score Hannah Mills.
Emily Wallace improved her record to 5-2 after she pitched the
complete game, scattered six hits, and struck out four batters.
Burleson had three hits in three trips to the plate for the
Saints with two RBIs , two runs scored, and a pair of doubles. Guse
was 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Kelsey Kuykendall batted
2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Kayla had four stolen bases as
Myers and Mills each had two stolen bases.
Magen West took the loss for the Bobcats as she gave up 11 hits
and six earned runs in six innings. She had two strikeouts.
Lees-McRae's Baxter was 3-for-3 at bat with two RBIs and a run
scored. She and Knowles both had two doubles.
Limestone won game two in the seventh inning on a walk-off
single by Guse that brought Wallace home. The Saints' other run was
scored in the first inning.
Lees-McRae evened the score in the third when Paula Fryar
homered.
Limestone's Leah Quant pitched a complete game to bring her
record to 12-5 overall. She only gave up four hits as she struck
out six. Guse batted 3-for-4 for Limestone with one RBI and one run
scored.
Moon hit 2-for-4 for the Bobcats at the plate.
Campbell took the loss as she gave up one earned run on seven
hits and recorded one strikeout.
