ANDEROSN, S.C. - The No. 30 Lees-McRae College men's tennis team
upset the No. 24 Anderson University Trojan, 7-2, Tuesday for the
second consecutive season in a Conference Carolinas match.
In 2009, the Bobcats beat the Trojans 5-4 at Lees-McRae's indoor
tennis facility the then No. 39 Bobcats upset the No. 17 Trojans,
5-4, but this season it was a different story.
The Bobcats won at number one and three doubles to take a 2-1
lead. At one doubles, Steve Karendal and Travis VanHoy won 8-4,
and at number three doubles Shaun Sumner and Marko Zivkovic held on
to win 9-7.
In singles, Sumner earned the team's first point with a 6-2, 6-2
win at number three, and doubles partner Zivkovic put the Bobcats
one point away from the win with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number four
singles.
Nandor Solymosi, clinched it for the Bobcats at number one
singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win, but the Bobcats weren't finished.
Steve Karendal added a 6-0, 6-0 statement win at number five, and
Tyler Grove ended it with a 6-4, 6-4 win at number six.
The Bobcats are now 9-4 overall and the only unbeaten team in
the conference at 6-0.
