MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Lees-McRae College and Pfeiffer University
battled to a split in a Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader
on Sunday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. The Lady Bobcats used a
six-run fourth inning in game one en route to an 8-2 victory while
the Lady Falcons benefitted from a complete game shutout by Allison
Braswell (Asheboro, NC) in a 3-0 game two win. Pfeiffer evens their
record at 10-10 overall, 3-3 inside conference play. Lees-McRae
also squares their marks at 7-7, 1-1.
In game one, Pfeiffer struck first in the initial inning on a
Sarah Waylock single that scored Mariah Chalk. The Lady Falcons
would hold that lead until the fourth when the Lady Bobcats blew
game one open with a half-dozen runs.
Anna Carter and Nicole Baxter traded one out doubles to even the
contest at one apiece, before Jessica Travers belted her first of
two long balls in the game with a blast to straight-away center
field. Magen West had the other pair of RBI with a two-out single
to right while Lees-McRae also took advantage of one Pfeiffer
miscue to tally another run.
Travers struck again in the fifth with another round-tripper to
center while Pfeiffer's Heather Nobles hit her team-leading third
homer in the seventh.
West earned the win in the circle tossing all seven frames
allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with three
strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Braswell surrendered just six hits with four
strikeouts in the complete-game shutout. Pfeiffer's first run came
again in the first as Amber Johnson notched the RBI with a single
to center that brought home Kylee Nichols, who began the frame by
reaching on an error.
The final pair of runs would plate in the fifth as Waylock drove
in Nichols with a fielder's choice while Kirsten Patterson would
later double in Johnson. Johnson and Sam Taylor each had a pair of
hits in the game two victory with Nobles and Johnson each having
three for the twin-bill. Paula Fryar had a couple of hits in game
two, leading the Lady Bobcats with her three total hits on the
afternoon.
The Lady Bobcats will return to action March 10th at Limestone
with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
